Just what the Giants needed: Another injury to a key defensive player.

Giants defensive lineman Justin Tuck has been out since the third preseason game with a neck issue. The team had played it off as minor, but he hasn’t practiced since and may sit out the season opener.

Tuck said it’s just a “regular stinger” and not a long term issue, but it’s taking longer than expected to recover from.

“I am concerned but I am not panicked,” Tuck said via ESPNNewYork.com. “It is getting better but just not as fast as I want it to.”

The Giants will already be without cornerback Terrell Thomas, defensive Osi Umenyiora, middle linebacker Jonathan Goff, linebacker Clint Sintim, and first-round pick Prince Amukamara, among others. Only Osi and Amukamara are coming back from that group.

The Redskins will almost surely be without safety LaRon Landry and possibly tight end Chris Cooley.
