Kevin Kolb is being held out of practice for the Cardinals on Tuesday, but he’s going to be starting for them on Sunday.
Darren Urban of the team’s website brings word that coach Ken Whisenhunt announced that Kolb will get the start in the Hall of Fame Game against the Saints. Kolb left practice early on Monday with a thigh contusion, but he’s expected back on Wednesday and Whisenhunt’s announcement shows that no one in the organization is overly concerned.
This doesn’t end the quarterback battle in Arizona by any means. This game isn’t going to be very telling about where Kolb and John Skelton are in terms of their ability to lead the team in the regular season and there’s a pretty good chance Skelton will start the second preseason game.
Having said that, it never hurts to be the guy on the top of the depth chart the first time they put together a depth chart. The Cardinals have insisted that the price paid to bring Kolb to the desert doesn’t give him a leg up on Skelton, although you have to believe that plenty of people inside the organization would like to see a more robust return on that trade.
