Linebacker Lawrence Timmons wants to finish his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers and he’s willing to re-do his contract in order to do so.
According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com, Timmons said he would “of course” be willing to adjust his contract with the Steelers in order to stay with the team.
“I’ve been here for nine years, I’ve got a house here, I’d like to keep that house,” Timmons said. “I’ve got a family here that loves it.”
Timmons is scheduled to earn $7.5 million in base salary this season and $8.75 million in 2016. The salary cap hits are the potentially problematic part for the Steelers. His will cost $12.6 million against the cap this season and $11.8 million in 2016.
The Steelers could restructure Timmons’ current deal or sign him to an extension in an effort of lowering some of their cap cost.
Timmons was a second-team All-Pro and named to his first Pro Bowl team last year. He has played in every game for Pittsburgh over the last five seasons and racked up 132 tackles and two sacks for the Steelers last year.
