Tuesday is the last day for a player on the physically unable to perform list to open the three-week window for a return to the active roster, by returning to practice. On Monday, 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said that linebacker NaVorro Bowman will indeed return to practice on Tuesday.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Bowman will participate at roughly 50-percent capacity.
Bowman tore an ACL in the 2013 NFC championship game. There have been reports suggesting he may not play at all in 2014.
His salary for 2015 moves to $4.7 million, with a cap hit in excess of $8 million. Given the emergence of rookie linebacker Chris Borland, the 49ers may decide they can get by without Bowman. If Bowman’s knee doesn’t recover the way it needs to, it could be that Bowman becomes the odd man out.
