Randy Moss makes a cameo appearance in a new campaign commercial from U.S. Senator Russ Feingold, and the NFL isn’t happy about it.
The ad for Feingold, who’s running for re-election in Wisconsin, includes footage of the 2005 incident in which Moss, then with the Vikings, scored a touchdown against the Packers at Lambeau Field and then proceeded to moon the crowd. It even includes the audio of broadcaster Joe Buck saying, “That is a disgusting act.”
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that the league contacted the Feingold campaign about removing the footage, which Feingold did not have the league’s approval to use.
The commercial shows Moss’s antics, along with a couple other scenes of football players celebrating, and then features Feingold saying, “In pro football, they call this excessive celebration. And they punish it with fines and 15-yard penalties. It’s exactly the kind of behavior that corporate special interests and Ron Johnson are engaging in. They’re dancing in the end zone because they think they’re going to take down the U.S. senator who’s been named the No. 1 enemy of Washington lobbyists.”
The other footage in the ad appears to come from actors playing football players, and from a game featuring the Houston Gamblers of the long-defunct United States Football League. So Feingold probably won’t hear any objections to the rest of the ad.
But the NFL wants the Moss mooning out.
