Niners Sign Another Draft Pick

Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat reports that the 49ers have signed yet another member of their rookie class of 2009. This time, the newest official hire is former LSU safety Curtis Taylor, a seventh-round pick. He was the tenth player taken in the round and the 219th overall selection. Per Maiocco, Taylor signed a four-year, $1.8 million contract, which includes a $59,880 signing bonus. This means that he’s due to receive the minimum base salaries for each year of the deal: $310,000; $395,000; $480,000; and $565,000. It’s not known whether the deal includes an escalator for year four, which would increase the base salary to the level of one of the various restricted free agency tenders. The NFLPA previously has recommended that agents include such protections in four-year deals for low-round rookies, since signing a four-year deal wipes out a player’s crack at restricted free agency after three years. Last week, the 49ers signed fifth-round linebacker Scott McKillop and seventh-round defensive lineman Ricky Jean-Francois. Both players signed four-year contracts.
