The Giants hoped to get wide receiver Victor Cruz back in the lineup against the Bills this Sunday, but Cruz couldn’t get through Wednesday’s practice without feeling pain in his injured calf.
That made a return this weekend unlikely and Giants coach Tom Coughlin confirmed Thursday that Cruz will miss his fourth game of the year. It makes 14 straight games without Cruz since he tore his patellar tendon last season.
Week Five may not be in the cards for Cruz either. Coughlin said that there’s “no timetable” for Cruz to get back to the lineup and that he’ll return to a rehab schedule in hopes of finally getting past the calf problem that’s been bothering him for close to two months at this point.
The Giants have not added a receiver to the roster to help them deal with Cruz’s absence, but did work out Wes Welker and former Giant Hakeem Nicks this week. Coughlin said Thursday, via Jordan Raanan of NJ.com, that Welker looked quick and healthy during the workout, although there’s nothing to indicate that a signing is currently on the table.
