Obama, NFL players encourage kids to exercise

Saints quarterback Drew Brees, Steelers safety Troy Polamalu and Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware filmed a public service announcement with President Obama that will air during the three Thanksgiving NFL games, stressing the importance of physical fitness to America’s children.

The commercial was shot by NFL Films on the White House lawn, and it shows the players, Obama and a collection of kids playing football together, promoting the NFL’s Play 60 program and the president’s United We Serve initiative.

Brees said he was thrilled at the opportunity to take part in it.

“Thanksgiving is a time when families come together, and it is also a perfect time to focus on the importance of keeping kids healthy and active,” Brees said. “I was honored to spend time with the President on an issue that is clearly important to him. I was also impressed by his wide receiver skills.”

All of the NFL’s Thanksgiving weekend games will be used to showcase the league’s efforts to combat childhood obesity and encourage exercise.
