The Packers activated three players from the active/physically unable to perform list Tuesday, but wide receiver Jordy Nelson wasn’t among them.
Nelson has been sidelined by left knee issue he experienced while working his way back from the torn right ACL he suffered last August. Though Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers dropped a hint after last weekend’s Hall of Fame Game fiasco that Nelson could return soon, the Packers really have no reason to rush Nelson back.
Two of the players activated Tuesday -- tight end Jared Cook and wide receiver Ty Montgomery -- can help Rodgers and the offense. Cook signed with the Packers in free agency after being released by the Rams, and Montgomery caught 15 passes as a rookie, two for touchdowns, despite being limited to six games by injury.
Linebacker Sam Barrington was also activated. Only Nelson and center Corey Linsley remain on active/PUP for the Packers, who now open the preseason Friday vs. the Browns.
