The Packers agreed to a deal bringing wide receiver James Jones back shortly after he arrived in Green Bay on Sunday, but they waited until Monday to make the move official.
When they did, they had to make room for the veteran on the roster and they did that by waiving wide receiver Myles White.
White joined the team in 2013 as an undrafted free agent and caught nine passes for 66 yards while playing in seven games for the team that year. With Davante Adams, Ty Montgomery and Jeff Janis already on the roster along with Randall Cobb, the Packers obviously wanted Jones’s experience over going with another young wideout with Jordy Nelson out for the season due to a torn ACL.
“He’s a good football player,” coach Mike McCarthy said of Jones, via the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “Don’t lose sight of that. Look at his tape in preseason and last year, he looks like James Jones. He’s been a big part of our success in the past.”
The Packers also announced that wide receiver Jared Abbrederis, linebacker Carl Bradford, running back John Crockett, cornerback Robertson Daniel, tight end Justin Perillo, defensive tackle Christian Ringo, guard Matt Rotheram, linebacker James Vaughters and tackle Jeremy Vujnovich are on the practice squad. White could join them if he clears waivers.
