With Pete Carroll as his coach, Mike Williams was one of the best wide receivers in college football as a freshman and sophomore at USC in 2002 and 2003, playing well enough to convince the Detroit Lions to select him with the 10th pick in the 2005 draft.
He was a major bust for the Lions, but Carroll, now the coach of the Seattle Seahawks, still thinks he has potential.
That’s why, Mike Sando of ESPN.com reports, Williams will get a look at this week’s minicamp.
No matter how much Carroll likes him, however, it’s highly unlikely that Williams will actually play for the Seahawks in 2010. The 6-foot-5 Williams is listed at 230 pounds but has reportedly weighed in at 270 or more. After playing for the Lions in 2005 and 2006, he played briefly with the Titans and Raiders in 2007 and hasn’t played in a regular-season game since then.
