Retired NFL quarterback Jake Plummer has accepted a paid assistant football coach position at Sandpoint High School in Idaho, according to the Idaho Statesman. The article didn’t specify the level of Plummer’s compensation, but Plummer is going to coach quarterbacks and help out with the offense, according to Sandpoint head coach Mike Mitchell. “It’s not an-every-single-day deal because he has other commitments in the fall, but he’s excited about it and we’re happy to have a guy with that kind of experience,” Mitchell said. “He has great charisma and the kids love to be around him.” It seems a bit strange that Plummer would accept a paycheck for coaching high school football on a part-time basis considering he played in the NFL for a decade with stints with the Denver Broncos and the Arizona Cardinals before retiring a few years ago rather than play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers following a trade. Of course, it’s probably not a large sum of money and Plummer could probably impart a lot of knowledge since he played quarterback in the NFL for such a long time.
