The Rams are halfway through their first season back in Los Angeles, a move that was made possible by the promise of the construction of a new stadium in Inglewood.

That construction process will officially get underway on Thursday. The Rams will break ground on the site of their new home after a ceremony involving team owner Stan Kroenke, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and others.

The goal is to have the Rams in place for the start of the 2019 season, which leaves a little under three years for the building to come on line on a site that was previously home to the Hollywood Park racetrack. The Rams will continue to play at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum until the stadium, which is projected to cost in the neighborhood of $2 billion, is ready to go.

Depending on what happens with the Chargers, the Rams may have company in the new digs and they’ll definitely be hosting Super Bowl LV in 2021 after a league vote to award the game to Los Angeles for the first time in more than 20 years.
