Washington Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell’s and cornerback Carlos Rogers’ base salaries have increased due to escalator clauses triggered in their respective rookie contracts, according to Jason La Canfora of the Washington Post. Rogers’ base salary went up from $602,000 to $1.403 million while Campbell’s base salary is up to $2.858 million from $783,000. The financial incentives were written into the players’ rookie contracts back in 2005. Both players would have been unrestricted free agents after next season if not for the current unsettled state of the collective bargaining agreement. If no CBA extension is struck between the owners and the NFL Players Association before the end of the 2009 season or if contract extensions aren’t negotiated for Campbell and Rogers, then they will become restricted free agents.
