As the winner-take-all game between the Panthers and the Giants heads to overtime, there was an intriguing glitch immediately prior to Carolina kicker John Kasay’s missed field goal at the end of regulation. An instant before the ball was snapped, Kasay stepped forward. Technically, he should have been flagged for illegal procedure. It’s a good thing, then, that the kick was no good. Still, Kasay technically should have gotten another chance to miss the kick in the swirling, face-reddening Meadowlands winds from five yards farther back.
