It appears Kam Chancellor of the Seahawks isn’t the only NFC safety recovering from offseason surgery.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Buccaneers safety Dashon Goldson had ankle surgery this offseason. Goldson is expected to miss all of the team’s spring work as a result of the operation and the team reportedly hopes that he’ll be healed in time to start training camp with his teammates.

Goldson missed two games with a knee injury and another to suspension last season, his first in Tampa after signing a five-year, $41.25 million contract with the team as a free agent. Goldson had 72 tackles, an interception and a forced fumble over the course of the year, production that was a bit below what the Bucs had in mind when they gave Goldson that contract.

Missing the spring and the new defensive installations that follow Lovie Smith’s arrival as head coach isn’t ideal for a rebound, but it looks like the path that Goldson will have to follow if he’s going to turn in a better second season with the Bucs.
