Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III went to Florida on Tuesday to meet with Dr. James Andrews about his injured right knee and we’ve got our first reports of what the next steps will be for the rookie.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Griffin expected to have surgery to repair a torn LCL this week and that doctors will examine the ACL during that operation to determine the extent of the damage to that ligament. The Redskins have not said anything about Griffin’s status on Tuesday.
“We’ll have an announcement at the appropriate time,” a team spokesman told Rich Campbell of the Washington Times.
Mark Maske and Mike Jones of the Washington Post reported Monday that there were at least partial tears of both ligaments, but coach Mike Shanahan said there wasn’t a clear opinion about whether the MRI showed old or new damage to the knee. That would seem to remain unclear given the course of action that doctors are reportedly taking.
