When Ronde Barber decided to retire from the Buccaneers after 16 years, television was suggested as a possible next career for the former cornerback.

Things are off to a good start in that regard. In late May, it was announced that Barber would join Fox Sports in a “hybrid role” that would allow him to do work during games as well as studio work for the forthcoming Fox Sports 1 cable channel. Neither of those gigs has launched, but that hasn’t stopped Barber from adding another line to his C.V.

WFLA in Tampa has announced that Barber will join their broadcast team for Buccaneers preseason games this summer. Barber will serve as the game analyst for the three Bucs exhibitions on the channel, joining play-by-play man Chris Myers and sideline reporter Dan Lucas during the games.

It’s not quite as high profile a first dip into the television waters as the one his twin brother Tiki took upon his own retirement from the Giants, but that may not be such a bad thing given the way things wound up working out for the first Barber brother to move into the broadcasting world.
