It’s official.
Running back Deuce McAllister has rejoined the New Orleans Saints, after a hiatus of more than a full year.
Though there’s a good chance that McAllister’s return is aimed at getting the black-and-gold faithful even more fired up on Saturday (we assume there will be at least one “F--k Da Cardinals” shirt displayed during the broadcast), they might be able to get some use out of Deuce, especially if running back Pierre Thomas is limited due to a rib injury.
“I’m speechless,” McAllister said in a team-issued release, before proving that he really was capable of speaking. “I don’t know that there are words to describe this feeling. I do know that we have some unfinished business that we started a few years ago and we want to finish the deal.”
“Deuce is a huge part of the history of our club and of what has gotten this team to where we are today and we absolutely wanted him with us as we head into the playoffs,” G.M. Mickey Loomis said in the same release.
“Deuce McAllister has always embodied the spirit of the New Orleans Saints and the city of New Orleans,” added coach Sean Payton. “We’re excited to have him back with the team and to have him lead us out on to the field tomorrow.”
The biggest question is whether he’ll actually be wearing a football uniform, or whether he’ll be one of the eight inactive players.
One guy who’ll be wearing a uniform is quarterback Chase Daniel. To make room for Deuce, the Saints placed defensive tackle Rodney Leisle on injured reserve, due to a knee injury. So look for Daniel to be the emergency quarterback.
