The Saints are doing a little renovating anyway, so they figured this was as good a time as any to take down the photo of the confessed serial rapist outside of their stadium.
According to John Simermani of the New Orleans Advocate, a photo of former Saints Tracy Porter and Darren Sharper celebrating during their 2010 Super Bowl win is being taken down after Sharper’s plea to rape charges in four states.
The image in Champions Square, outside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, is being taken down and others are being “freshened up.”
“It’s common sense. We don’t even want the perception that that’s an individual we’re celebrating,” team executive Ben Hales said. “We’re going through some options now. Definitely going will be the Tracy Porter picture.
“The shame of it is, that’s an iconic moment from the Super Bowl. People can probably do the TV and radio call in their head. There just happens to be somebody in the background who is not someone our organization or the NFL Network is likely to be celebrating.”
And there are probably folks at William and Mary who were proud of him making the NFL and having a long career, but that didn’t stop the school from removing him from their hall of fame, either.
