Despite losing nose tackle Brandon Mebane for the year with a torn hamstring on Tuesday, the Seattle Seahawks felt their lack of depth currently at tight end was a more pressing issue.
After placing Mebane on injured reserve, the Seahawks re-signed tight end RaShaun Allen off the Minnesota Vikings practice squad.
Allen appeared in one game for Seattle in October against the St. Louis Rams when Zach Miller and Luke Willson were both sidelined with ankle injuries. With that scenario appearing likely again this weekend against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Seahawks needed to add another body to the position.
Cooper Helfet is also banged up and former Chiefs tight end Tony Moeaki was recently signed last week by the club. Moeaki was inactive for last week’s game against the New York Giants, leaving just Helfet and backup tackle Garry Gilliam to play tight end when Willson left in the second quarter with a sprained ankle.
Allen spent the offseason with Seattle after signing following a tryout with the team and spent most of the first half of the season on Seattle’s practice squad.
Seattle also placed running back Demitrius Bronson and defensive end Julius Warmsley on the practice squad injured reserve list, and released linebacker L.J. Fort. The Seahawks signed defensive end Ryan Robinson and running back Cierre Wood
