Steve Sabol: Revis won’t appear on Hard Knocks tonight

The conflicting reports regarding a possible deal between the Jets and cornerback Darrelle Revis has sparked considerable speculation regarding the potential connection between a new Revis deal and HBO’s Hard Knocks. With Tim Cowlishaw of the Dallas Morning News reporting that a new deal will come “probably Wednesday” and a new episode of Hard Knocks coming “definitely Wednesday,” one possibility for the on-the-record and off-the-record denials by the principals of any progress was/is the unveiling of the new deal during tonight’s show, possibly with a brief live feed.

Bolstering this speculation was a Tuesday “report” from Cowlishaw that Revis taped a TV interview on Monday, which will air on Wednesday. Though Cowlishaw also said he doesn’t think the interview is part of the Hard Knocks show, the suggestion that Revis talked to cameras only enhanced the speculation of a Wednesday night surprise.

And so the folks at ESPN 1050 in New York tracked down Steve Sabol of NFL Films for an on-air interview. Sabol told Jody McDonald and Brandon Tierney of ESPN 1050 that Revis will not appear on camera on the newest episode of Hard Knocks.

Whether he’ll be appearing before news cameras to discuss a new contract before the end of the week remains to be seen.
