With former Colts coach Tony Dungy serving as an adviser and mentor to quarterback Mike Vick, and with Dungy telling Dan Patrick last month that he’d be interested in signing Vick if Dungy was with a team that needed a quarterback, some have speculated that Vick might end up with the Colts and Dungy’s successor, Jim Caldwell.
At this point, it’s not likely to happen.
“Our quarterback situation is great right now,’' Caldwell told Don Banks of SI.com. “He’s a talented guy, and I know he’ll find a home somewhere. One thing you know, he’s in good hands with Tony. I think you’re going to see Tony can really help Mike in terms of the direction of his life, and it’s going to be a very positive thing for Mike.’'
So barring a torn ACL or other serious injury to any of the guys on the team’s quarterback depth chart, Vick won’t be wearing a horseshoe on his helmet in 2009.
