At the end of a season in which they used four different starting quarterbacks, the Houston Texans are the champions of the AFC South.

Today their top quarterback, Brian Hoyer was back, and he led the offense while J.J. Watt led the defense in a good performance against the Jaguars on the day the Texans clinched the division title. (Technically the Texans clinched the South not by beating the Jaguars but by the Saints beating the Falcons -- that clinched the strength of victory tiebreaker for the Texans.)

At 9-7, the Texans are far from a great team, but they’re not a bad team, either. Watt recovered a fumble, had three sacks, three tackles for loss and two passes defensed, and he leads a tough, physical defense. The Texans’ offense is mediocre, but Hoyer is efficient and receiver DeAndre Hopkins had another good game today, and running back Alfred Blue topped 100 yards.

Houston will host a wild card game next weekend, and there’s a good chance that the Texans will be home underdogs. But they won’t be an easy team to beat. With Watt and that defense, the Texans are a playoff team, not a pushover.
