Titans sign Donnie Nickey to one-year deal

Although Tennessee center Kevin Mawae is “definitely” heading to free agency, the Titans are moving to lock up some of their other players before the free agency period begins.

Last week the Titans signed guard Eugene Amano to a five-year, $25 million deal, and today Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean is reporting that the Titans have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with safety Donnie Nickey.

“I was getting ready to wait [until free agency],’' Nickey said. “But they gave me an offer and I took it. It’s one of those things where a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. And this is my home and I love the organization. I wasn’t really looking to go anywhere else, so it just made sense.’'

A fifth-round draft pick of the Titans in 2003, Nickey only started one game for the Titans’ defense in 2009. But he played in all 16 games and is a valuable contributor on special teams.
