Proving once and for all that all politics is local, Tom Brady is done talking about politics.
The Patriots quarterback — who supported Donald Trump but didn’t want to talk about it and then his wife made her feelings known — declined a previous promise to reveal his vote during his weekly appearance on WEEI’s “Kirk and Callahan Show.”
“I’m not talking politics anymore, guys,” Brady said, via Phill Perry of CSNNE.com. “I’m just not. I got other things to worry about. Just speaking with my family, it’s just a bad idea. I know, you guys, I told you I would, then after I told you I would, I changed my mind.”
Sounds like his wife Gisele Bundchen was as emphatic in that talk as she was in telling one of her 10,000,000 Instagram followers that she was not supporting the President-elect.
But Brady has always found a safe space during the paid appearance, and had told the hosts a week ago he’d confirm whether or not he voted for his “good friend,” so they pressed him on it today.
“I just don’t want to get into it, guys,” he said. “I really don’t. There’s nothing positive that comes of it. And there’s just been so much negativity over the last week. I’m a positive person. I just want to keep things positive.”
Asked if he was happy his friend would now be living in a White House which he’s refused previous invitations to visit, Brady tried to stay in the middle of the road.
“Like I said, yeah, I don’t want to express any emotions or feelings of how I feel,” he said. “You know what I am? I’m hopeful and optimistic that our country can, you know, move forward. I’m happy the election’s over. I’m sure a lot of other people are. And I’m going to focus on football.”
And when focusing on football the day after a painful loss to the Seahawks is his preference, it’s clear how uncomfortable the situation has become for the Patriots quarterback, and how much he probably regrets starting the whole conversation by conspicuously displaying a “Make America Great Again” hat when it was just a funny hat.
