The Cardinals have already paid Tyrann Mathieu. Now they’re getting closer to being able to play him.

Via Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic, Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said Mathieu, cornerback Justin Bethel and defensive tackle Frostee Rucker are expected to come off the physically unable to perform list this week.

They might not begin practice immediately, but he wanted them to be able to get “mental reps.”

Bethel had a broken foot and Rucker underwent ankle surgery this offseason. But Matheiu’s recovery from ACL surgery will remain the one they keep the closest eye on, considering his importance to the defense and what they just paid him.

Getting them back this week sets the stage for all three to ease into individual work before being thrown into team drills, and Arians said the goal was for all of them to be ready by the regular season opener.
