Vic Beasley won’t have shoulder surgery

Late in the season, Falcons rookie defensive end Vic Beasley said that he’d been playing with a torn labrum in his right shoulder.

He won’t be having surgery to correct the problem this offseason, though. Coach Dan Quinn said Monday, via Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com, that Beasley is expected to recover without an operation.

Beasley was the eighth-overall pick in the draft last year and led the team in sacks, although his total of four for the year says a lot about how much help the Falcons need in that department overall. Beasley came into the season shooting for double-digit sacks, but said the shoulder wasn’t the reason why he fell short of the goal.

“No excuses, not at all,” Beasley said. “I mean, I had the labrum injury, but I’m a tough guy. I play through pain. It hasn’t limited me from anything. I worked hard throughout [OTAs] and throughout the spring and tried to come out here and put my best foot forward for this organization.”

With a league-low 19 sacks overall in 2015, the Falcons are going to need a few more feet moving forward toward the pocket next season.
