The Vikings, whose first five wins came by an average of 4.6 points, finally blew out an opponent. Coach Brad Childress is being praised for punishing RB Adrian Peterson after he was tardy to a Saturday team meeting. Childress called QB Gus Frerotte’s pain “self-inflicted” because he didn’t throw the ball away after leaving the pocket. The Vikings plan to use RB Chester Taylor more even if Adrian Peterson shows up to all the meetings on time. Jaguars WR Troy Williamson didn’t get to beat up Brad Childress or even dress out due to a sore groin. Some of the words Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio used to describe his team’s performance: “ridiculous,” “mistake-filled,” “sloppy,” “embarrassing poor’’ and “totally unacceptable.” The Jaguars had five turnovers, including Brad Meester’s traditional snap in a shotgun formation on the first play from scrimmage. After that fumble was returned for a touchdown, Brian Witherspoon fumbled on the ensuing kickoff return, setting the tone for a terrible day by the special teams. RBs Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew combined for only 24 rushing yards. Jones-Drew’s 113 receiving yards were about the only highlight for Jacksonville.
