Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner, two weeks removed from signing a two-year, $23 million contract with $19 million guaranteed, has undergone arthroscopic hip surgery. The team expects him to miss an upcoming minicamp, but he is expected to be able to participate in offseason training activities that commence on May 18. “Everything went well and I’m feeling great,” Warner said Wednesday, according to the Arizona Republic. “I began rehab on a stationary bike just a few hours after surgery and then a couple more times today. “The injury was one I sustained and played with last season and although I could have continued to play with it, I felt this was best for short-term success on the field as well as long-term comfort off the field. I am ready to go to work and back so we can build on what we accomplished last season.” The Cardinals were aware of Warner’s condition when negotiating with Warner on a new deal. “We talked right after the season and we all agreed that this procedure was the best option and this would be a good time,” coach Ken Whisenhunt said. “I talked to Kurt [Wednesday] and he felt good. To their credit, the Cardinals didn’t leak the fact that Warner needed hip surgery to the other teams that were interested in signing him. Um, all one of them.
