The 2010 season started for Vikings quarterback Brett Favre a lot like the 2009 season ended.
With a bone-rattling hit.
After leading the Vikings to a first down with a first-down swing pass to running back Adrian Peterson, the drive sputtered, with Favre being splattered by 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis.
The drive ended in a punt.
The Chiefs applied a big hit to Favre early in his preseason debut last year. Unlike the Chiefs, the 49ers have an unspoken competitive reason to pound Favre. With a fairly easy schedule, the Niners could set themselves up for a possible bye in the playoffs if they can knock Favre out now.
