Wilfork: “It’s Nothing Personal”

New England Patriots veteran nose guard Vince Wilfork, the 325-pound defensive lineman who has been skipping voluntary offseason workouts because he’s dissatisfied with his contract status, is trying to keep it civil in his business dispute with team management. During an interview with WEEI Radio today at the Patriots’ charity golf tournament, per Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe, Wilfork emphasized that while no compromise has been reached, he doesn’t hold any animosity toward the team. “It’s nothing personal towards the organization, it’s nothing personal towards my coaches or anything like that,” Wilfork said. “It’s just basically what made the most sense to me at this point in time. . . . “It’s not the first time a player has gone through a contract negotiation problem. So, I try to stay positive and at the same time do what’s best for me and my family. At the end of the day, that’s what matters to me.” Wilfork, who’s entering the final year of his contract, said that he’s not looking to break the bank necessarily with a new contract. “I’m not looking to sign this big-time, going-down-in-history, the best contract there is,” Wilfork said. “I want to be comfortable, but at the same time, I want to be with the guys that I go to war with.” Even if he doesn’t receive a new deal, Wilfork seems committed to eventually showing up. At least for today, though, the only athletic activity Wilfork is participating in with his teammates involved hitting a few golf balls.
