Dolphins signed DB Quinten Lawrence, formerly of the Chiefs.
Lawrence entered the league with the Chiefs as a sixth-round wide receiver in 2009, but the Dolphins are announcing him as a defensive back. If the former McNeese State star makes the team, it’s likely to be as a return specialist.
  • Defensive Back
Chiefs agreed to terms with sixth-round WR Quinten Lawrence on a three-year, $1.275 million contract. The deal includes a $90,000 signing bonus.
Lawrence recorded just eight catches after breaking his ankle as a McNeese State senior. He won’t contribute much on offense, but he has the speed and moves to take over as the Chiefs kickoff and punt returner as soon as this season.
  • Defensive Back
The Chiefs are looking at sixth-round pick Quinten Lawrence as a potential return specialist.
KC’s return game has been dreadful since Dante Hall. We didn’t expect Lawrence to be drafted after he broke his ankle and had only eight catches as a McNeese State senior, but he can run. He just won’t help on offense.
  • Defensive Back
Chiefs rookie WR Quinten Lawrence hasn’t mastered the playbook yet.
The sixth-round pick can’t get on the field despite the Chiefs’ wretched receiving corps. He’s not going to be a factor on offense this season.
  • WAS Coaching Staff
Chiefs coach Todd Haley called Bobby Engram a candidate to return punts if rookie Quinten Lawrence doesn’t seize the job.
Engram has 102 career punt returns, although he has just two since 2004. Lawrence is the frontrunner currently because he’s way more explosive. The Chiefs don’t yet view their sixth-round pick as an option to play wide receiver.
  • KC Running Back #31
Chiefs third-down back Jamaal Charles had four carries for eight yards and caught four passes for 29 yards in the Week 1 loss.
Charles also returned four kicks for 93 yards, a 23.3 average. It was uncertain if he would return kicks over Quinten Lawrence, but Lawrence only got one chance. Charles should see more touches against Oakland next week.
  • Defensive Back
    Chiefs waived WR Quinten Lawrence.
Lawrence was the Chiefs’ sixth-round pick out of McNeese State. They thought of him as a kick returner but he appeared in just two games, returned one kickoff and catching zero balls. He’s a practice squad candidate.
  • Defensive Back
    Chiefs re-signed WR/KR Quinten Lawrence.
Lawrence earned a reprieve after getting released over the weekend. He’ll likely get a shot at return duties for the final two weeks.
  • Defensive Back
Chiefs released WR Quinten Lawrence and activated G Darryl Harris from the practice squad.
Lawrence was the Chiefs’ primary kick returner in Weeks 12 and 13, but lost that job to Lance Long last week. With Dwayne Bowe back, there’s no need for Lawrence.
  • Defensive Back
Chiefs signed WR Quinten Lawrence off their practice squad.
Lawrence takes the roster spot vacated by Maurice Leggett’s season-ending injury. Lawrence projects as a kick returner.
