Sources tell 5 News Arkansas that Arkansas Razorbacks officials contacted Pete Carroll about the university’s head-coaching vacancy, but were turned down.
Sources also tell 5 News that NFL Network’s Steve Mariucci reached out to Arkansas officials. Mooch is a likelier candidate than Carroll, who has a good thing going as one of the NFL’s highest paid coaches for one of the league’s up-and-coming teams. Carroll is entering his third season in Seattle. He won a playoff game in 2010, and last year won five of his final eight games.

Seattle’s No. 1 defense hasn’t allowed a TD in 15 series this preseason.
That’s one of the most surprising stats of the preseason. A nice test comes tonight vs. Minnesota.

Seahawks hired ex-Florida defensive coordinator Dan Quinn to replace Gus Bradley in the same position.
That was quick. Quinn coached Seattle’s defensive line in Pete Carroll’s first year on the job before heading to Florida for the past two seasons, picking up valuable experience in defending spread and pistol offenses. The Seahawks already run Carroll’s scheme, so there won’t be any major changes under Quinn, who was also mentioned as a candidate to become the defensive coordinator of the Browns, Eagles or Jaguars. Seattle should remain one of fantasy’s top defenses in 2013.

According to FOX broadcaster Thom Brennaman, Seahawks DC Gus Bradley will interview for two head-coaching jobs other than the Eagles.
Bradley is regarded in some circles as a favorite to land the Eagles job. Other openings include the Cardinals, Chargers, Bears, and Jaguars. Bradley’s defense was gashed by the Falcons in the first half of Sunday’s game, but that’s hardly a reason to bypass a man considered a “brilliant football mind.”

Seahawks defensive coordinator Ray Rhodes spent the past two nights in the hospital with an undetermined condition and his status for Sunday’s season opener is in question.
Linebackers coach John Marshall is serving as defensive coordinator.

Defensive coordinator Ray Rhodes was released from the hospital yesterday, but is not expected to coach Sunday.
Rhodes experienced dizziness last week and entered the hospital Sunday. He is scheduled to undergo further testing this week.

NFL Network’s Adam Schefter reports Jim Mora Jr. has withdrawn his name from consideration for the Redskins’ head coaching job.
The Washington Post says Mora withdrew his name because of family considerations, and that Gregg Williams remains the favorite. Perhaps this indicates Mora feels good about taking over for Mike Holmgren eventually, although it seems like Holmgren is leaning towards staying around. A formal announcement by next week.

Seahawks reached agreement with DBs coach Jim Mora to make him head coach Mike Holmgren’s successor in 2009. Mora received a four-year extension.
The deal likely also involves a significant raise. By tabbing Mora now, the Seahawks avoid having to go through a drawn out head coaching search next winter. While Mora led the Falcons to a 26-22 record and was loved by his players, his teams lacked discipline and had a tendency to fall apart. Mora’s hire isn’t great news for the offensive players in Seattle.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports the Redskins will interview Jim Mora Jr. regarding their head coaching vacancy on Wednesday.
It’s interesting that despite Gregg Williams being the “frontrunner” for the job, Washington is pursing other defensive minds. Mora ran Seattle’s secondary in 2007 after being fired as head coach of the Falcons. Mort says the ‘Skins have set up an interview with Colts DC Ron Meeks for Thursday.

Seahawks head coach in waiting, Jim Mora, said Friday he is not interested in the University of Washington coaching job.
Mora was forced to make a statement after speculation had run rampant following Ty Willingham’s departure. Mora came under fire during his last days with the Falcons for referring to the Washington gig as his “dream job.” He’s set to take over for Mike Holmgren after this season.
