Anaheim began the night by retiring No. 8 and saluting 44-year-old Teemu Selanne on his storybook career. It ended after 21-year-old Rickard Rakell lead the Ducks in an unlikely 5-4 shootout victory comeback victory.

Rakell has plenty of promise, but going into Sunday’s game he had never recorded more than one point in a single NHL contest. Tonight he had two goals and four points, including the game-tying marker with just 2:03 minutes left in regulation:

It was quite the turn of events after Winnipeg entered the period up 4-2 and in the middle of a five-on-three power play. Rakell also got an opportunity to show off in the shootout and managed to beat Jets goaltender Ondrej Pavelec for the third time tonight. However, it was Sami Vatanen in Round 6 that ultimately ended this contest.

With that, the Ducks improved to a remarkable 21-0-6 in one-goal games. They’re also one of the best teams in the league when down after two periods with a 6-10-0 record in those situations.

Anaheim’s normal heavy hitters, Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf, failed to record a point and had a combined minus-three rating. Instead Tim Jackman and Kyle Palmieri accounted for the Ducks’ other two goals.

Winnipeg has now won just two of its last seven games as it clings onto a Wild Card spot.
