The world’s best men’s skier looks to close the World Championships with a third gold medal in the slalom in Beaver Creek, Colo., on Sunday afternoon, live on NBC and NBC Sports Live Extra.

Austrian Marcel Hirscher is the defending World champion in the slalom and the three-time reigning World Cup overall champion. He already owns two gold medals and one silver from these World Championships, matching countrywoman Anna Fenninger as the most decorated skier the last two weeks.

Hirscher, 25, leads by .28 of a second after the morning run Sunday. The top American, giant slalom champion Ted Ligety, is outside the top 10 and 1.93 behind.

The combined time from the morning run and this afternoon’s run will determine the medalists. Hirscher can become the second man since World War II to repeat as World slalom champion, joining Swede Ingemar Stenmark, considered by many the greatest Alpine skier ever.
