Pau Gasol commits to Olympics, report says

Pau Gasol weighed whether to skip the Rio Games due to Zika virus concerns and has decided to make himself available for a fourth Olympics, according to Marca.

Gasol, a two-time Olympic silver medalist, had previously penned his concerns about the Zika virus on May 30 and said he might decide to freeze his sperm beforehand if he goes to Rio.

Pau and injured younger brother Marc Gasol were named to Spain’s list of 24 finalists for the 12-man roster earlier this month.

Pau carried Spain to Olympic qualification at EuroBasket in September, scoring 30, 27 and 40 points in the last three Olympic qualifying games to book the nation’s fifth straight Olympic men’s basketball berth.

Spain was without Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka, Ricky Rubio and Jose Calderon at EuroBasket. If they all return for Rio, along with Pau, they could challenge a depleted U.S. roster.
