About 7.5 million tickets hope to be sold for Rio 2016 Olympic events, with half of the tickets available in Brazil for $30 or less, Rio Games organizers announced Tuesday.
In November, registration to purchase tickets for the 717 sessions across 28 sports, plus Opening and Closing Ceremonies, will begin in the Olympic host country. Here are the ticket prices released by Rio organizers on Monday.
Many tickets will be available for less than $20 USD. The highest-priced tickets are the best seats for the Opening Ceremony, which run for nearly $2,000. Opening Ceremony tickets start at about $86.
The highest-priced single-session tickets are about $515 for finals in track and field, basketball and beach and indoor volleyball. Top tickets for the men’s 100m final at the London Olympics went for about twice as much. Brazil is historically strong in volleyball.
For Americans, the ticket-buying process has traditionally gone through CoSport. The first ticket sales through CoSport for the London Olympics began 500 days before the 2012 Opening Ceremony, on March 15, 2011.
