Ryan Donato, the Harvard junior who led the U.S. Olympic hockey team with five goals and six points, has signed a two-year contract with the Boston Bruins.
The Bruins retained Donato’s rights after taking him in the second round of the 2014 NHL Draft. He could make his NHL debut on Monday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Donato, 21, tied for the Olympic men’s tournament lead in goals and was the only male player in PyeongChang to average one goal per game.
He was one of four NCAA players on the U.S. Olympic roster of 25 players that otherwise included veterans playing in the American Hockey League and in Europe.
Among Americans, only John LeClair scored more goals at one Olympics in the NHL participation era from 1998 through 2014.
Donato’s father, Ted, played in the 1992 Albertville Olympics and then made his NHL debut with the Bruins the following month, starting a career that lasted until 2004.
The Bruins signed another PyeongChang Olympian, captain Brian Gionta, on the day of the Closing Ceremony on Feb. 25.
