On the United States pairing of Cristie Kerr and Lexi Thompson
Jerry Foltz – “You got to admire Cristie. She is in a more advanced stage in her career than all of the other players in the field, she is not feeling well and her swing is not totally cooperating. But she is not without a fight, and I don’t think she ever will be.”
Cristie Kerr and Lexi Thompson speaking with Golf Channel’s Jerry Foltz
Cristie Kerr – “We had never been down this much before. I didn’t know what to make of it. We knew we had to put a little pressure on ‘em. Thank God Lexi was in my group today. I struggled with ball-striking this second round. Finally hit two good shots and then we’re done.”
Lexi Thompson – “It definitely helps my confidence out a lot. I felt comfortable over the putter. Just a little fix that I made, made me a lot more comfortable over the putts and committing to my lines. That is what putting is all about. Oh, and having this one by my side pumping me up. She keeps saying, ‘knock ‘em in.’ That is all I need to hear.”
Thompson – “The last few weeks, I’ve been trying to go back to the old Lexi where I just aim up the right and hit a draw. That is where I free swung it and I’m just getting back to that. Just aim up the right and hit a draw.”
On the United States pairing of Michelle Wie and Jessica Korda
Kay Cockerill – “They had magic with the putter this morning. That magic is gone this afternoon.”
Michelle Wie and Jessica Korda speaking with Golf Channel’s Kay Cockerill
Michelle Wie – “It is getting dark and it has been a long day. It’s match play. If it was stroke play, we’d definitely try to play more and try to get more done. It is fair that we start on a hole that we all agree and we are excited about tomorrow.”
Wie – “It is hard out here. Mentally it is draining. It is a hard golf course, and the wind and the rain and the cold and being out here for more than 18 holes. It is tough. We still hung in there. It is not easy for anyone. You have to remind yourself that this is not stroke play, it is match play. We still have some work to do tomorrow but we’re excited.”
Jessica Korda – “That part is really nice. Trying to distract each other from what is going on. Just joking around, knowing each other’s personalities and not being afraid to say something, it’s comforting.”
On England’s pairing of Bronte Law and Charley Hull
Karen Stupples – “It is almost like the bigger the challenge, the more Bronte loves it.”
Kate Burton – “Bronte is the Cristie Kerr of the English side.”
On Japan’s Nasa Hataoka
Kay Cockerill – “She has definitely taken over the leadership role for Japanese women’s golf.”
On the Korean team of IK Kim and Sung Hyun Park
Donegan – “I want to have what those two had for lunch.”
On Round 3 at the UL International Crown
Peter Donegan – “The standard of play this afternoon, considering the fatigue the players must be feeling, has been exceptional. The golf course is obviously receptive.”
Jerry Foltz – “We’ve seen some great golf and we’ve seen some challenging golf on a very difficult golf course. We get to see the best from all over the world fighting it out for a title, even in its short infancy, this means so much to these players.”
Foltz – “We are seeing some fireworks now. A lot of birdies. They have shortened it up and have made the hole locations accessible. After two rounds of really difficult conditions, they are giving them a chance to show what they can do.”
