STAMFORD, Conn.Nov. 20, 2019Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers (8-2) face Jimmy Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers (9-1) on NBC’s Sunday Night Football this week in a battle of NFC division leaders fighting for playoff seeding. Coverage begins at 7 p.m. ET on NBC, followed by kickoff at 8:20 p.m. ET from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA.

Calling Packers-49ers is Al Michaels (play-by-play), in his record 34th season as the voice of the NFL’s premier primetime package; 16-time Emmy Award-winner Cris Collinsworth; and three-time Emmy Award-winning sideline reporter Michele Tafoya. Three-time Super Bowl referee and SNF rules analyst Terry McAulay joins Michaels and Collinsworth in the booth.

The 17-3 combined record of the Packers and 49ers heading into this week’s game is the second-best combined record going into a Week 12 SNF game since NBC acquired the package in 2006. Only New England (10-0) vs. Denver (8-2) in 2015 had a better combined mark at 18-2. Denver won that matchup, 30-24 in overtime, and went on to defeat the Patriots again in the AFC Championship Game, before winning Super Bowl 50 over the Carolina Panthers.

Sunday night’s matchup marks the latest in a storied rivalry between two of the winningest franchises in NFL history – Green Bay has won an NFL-record 13 championships (including four Super Bowls) while San Francisco ranks third in NFL history with five Super Bowl wins. The Packers and 49ers have met 67 times (including the postseason), with the Packers leading the all-time series, 36-30-1. Since 2012, the teams have met twice in the postseason, with the 49ers winning both games. In the 2012 NFC Divisional playoffs, the 49ers led by Colin Kaepernick’s quarterback playoff record 181 rushing yards, defeated the Packers, 45-31, on their way to Super Bowl XLVII. The following season in 2013, San Francisco defeated Green Bay, 23-20, on a last-second field goal in the NFC Wild Card round.

Coming off their bye, the Packers, under rookie head coach Matt LaFleur, look for a second consecutive win after a 24-16 victory over the Panthers in Week 10. Running back Aaron Jones is tied for the league lead in rushing touchdowns (11) and scrimmage touchdowns (14), while linebacker Blake Martinez ranks second in the NFL with 102 tackles this season. In six career regular-season meetings, four won by the Packers, Rodgers has 1,927 passing yards (321.2 per game) with 13 touchdowns and two interceptions for a 105.1 passer rating against San Francisco.

San Francisco enters Week 12 following a dramatic come-from-behind home victory, 36-26, over the division-rival Cardinals last week. Garoppolo passed for a career-high 424 yards and four touchdowns, and rookie wide receiver Deebo Samuel registered a career-high 134 receiving yards in the win. The 49ers rank second in the league in points per game (29.5) this season, while San Francisco’s defense, led by 2019 No. 2 overall pick defensive end Nick Bosa, ranks second in the NFL in points allowed per game (15.5) and leads the league in passing yards allowed per game (142.5).

Mike Tirico will host Football Night in America at 7 p.m. ET alongside Hall of Fame coach Tony Dungy, two-time Super Bowl champion Rodney Harrison, NFL Insider Mike Florio and former NFL quarterback Chris Simms. Liam McHugh will co-host Football Night in America on-site from Levi’s Stadium.

NBC’s coverage of Sunday Night Football is led by executive producer Fred Gaudelli and director Drew Esocoff. FNIA begins every Sunday at 7 p.m. ET, and is produced by Rob Hyland and directed by Mike Sheehan.

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULING: Flexible scheduling will be used in Weeks 11-17. Additionally, in Weeks 5-10, flexible scheduling may be used in no more than two weeks. In Weeks 5-16, the schedule lists the games tentatively set for Sunday Night Football on NBC. Only Sunday afternoon games are eligible to be moved to Sunday night, in which case the tentatively scheduled Sunday night game would be moved to an afternoon start time. Flexible scheduling will not be applied to games airing on Thursday or Monday nights.

A flexible scheduling move would be announced at least 12 days before the game. For Week 17, the Sunday night game will be announced no later than six days prior to December 29. The schedule does not list a Sunday night game in Week 17, but an afternoon game with playoff implications will be moved to that time slot. Flexible scheduling ensures quality matchups in all Sunday time slots in those weeks, and gives “surprise” teams a chance to play their way into prime time.
