STAMFORD, Conn. – July 12, 2023 – Seven-time Olympic gold medalist Katie Ledecky headlines NBC Sports’ live coverage of the 2023 World Aquatics Championships from Fukuoka, Japan beginning this Friday, July 14, at 7 p.m. ET on Peacock.
From this Friday, July 14, through next Sunday, July 30, NBC Sports presents daily live coverage of the World Aquatics Championships at Noon ET on Peacock. NBC will air encore coverage of the event on Sunday, July 30, at 5 p.m. ET and Saturday, August 5, at 1:30 p.m. ET.
This year’s Championships in Fukuoka will also serve as a 2024 Olympics qualifier, where Olympic spots and quotas will be on the line for participating athletes in diving, water polo, open water swimming and swimming relays.
Ledecky, who won four World Championship gold medals in 2022, looks to win her sixth straight World Championship title in the 800 free. The world record holder, Ledecky has won the 800 free at every international championship meet since the 2012 London Olympics. She is the only woman to break 8:10 in the event, which she has accomplished eight times in her career. Ledecky is expected to contest the 800 free as well as other events in Fukuoka.
Ledecky is joined on Team USA by an impressive group of athletes, including five-time Olympic medalist Lilly King, three-time Olympic medalist Regan Smith, two-time Tokyo Olympic champion Bobby Finke, six-time Olympic medalist Ryan Murphy, two-time Olympic medalist Chase Kalisz, and three-time 2022 world championship medalist Carson Foster.
Ledecky and Kalisz have competed in every long course World Championships since 2013, joining an elite crew of American swimmers, including Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte, to have qualified for six World Championship teams.
On the international side, two-time Tokyo Olympic champion Ariarne Titmus (Australia), four-time world championship medalist Summer McIntosh (Canada), three-time world championship medalist Leon Marchand (France), and Tokyo Olympic 200m butterfly silver medalist Tomoru Honda (Japan) are all expected to compete.
Dan Hicks and Jason Knapp will handle play-by-play for the event alongside analyst Rowdy Gaines. Kira Dixon serves as the reporter.
