STAMFORD, Conn. – May 4, 2023 – NBC Sports will present the entire Diamond League schedule – track & field’s international series of prestigious meets – this season, beginning with the Doha Diamond League meet on Friday, May 5, from Suheim bin Hamad Stadium in the Qatari capital. Live coverage begins Friday at Noon ET on Peacock, followed by an encore presentation on CNBC at Noon ET this Sunday, May 7.
Five-time Olympic medalist Shericka Jackson (Jamaica), coming off a three-medal performance at the 2022 World Championships that saw her run the second-fastest 200m of all time (21.45) en route to winning her first individual world title, will square off against 2022 world 200m bronze medalist Dina Asher-Smith (Great Britain) in the women’s 100m. Jackson has won four of the previous five 100m races between the two. The American contingent of 2019 NCAA champion Sha’Carri Richardson, two-time 2022 world champion Abby Steiner, Tokyo Olympic 4x100m relay silver medalist Teahna Daniels, and 2022 4x100m relay world champions Twanisha Terry and Melissa Jefferson are also expected to line up.
On the men’s side, a deep 200m featuring the reigning world champions in both the 100m (Fred Kerley) and the 400m (Michael Norman), as well as the 200m Olympic gold and silver medalists from Tokyo, Andre De Grasse (Canada) and Kenny Bednarek, highlights the meet.
Other Olympians expected to compete in Doha include Tokyo Olympic 400m hurdles silver medalist Rai Benjamin, two-time Olympic 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon (Kenya), Tokyo Olympic steeplechase champion Soufiane El Bakkali (Morocco), Tokyo Olympic pole vault champion Katie Moon, 2017 steeplechase world champion Emma Coburn, and three-time high jump world champion and Tokyo Olympic champion Mutaz Barshim (Qatar), competing in front of his home crowd.
NBC Sports’ Paul Swangard will call the event, joined by four-time Olympic medalist Ato Boldon and three-time U.S. National Team member Josh Cox.
NBC Sports will present more than 60 hours of exclusive coverage of the Diamond League this season across NBC, Peacock, and CNBC, including 30+ hours of live coverage streaming on Peacock. All 14 meets will be presented live on Peacock, with encore presentations of most on CNBC.
From September 16-17, NBC will present four hours of live coverage of the Prefontaine Classic, which will double as the Diamond League Final, from Hayward Field at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore. – home of the 2023 USATF Outdoor Championships. This will be the first time in history that the Diamond League Final will be held on U.S. soil.
