This weekend’s MLB coverage continues with Sunday Night Baseball at 6 p.m. ET, when the AL Central-leading Chicago White Sox host the Minnesota Twins on Peacock and NBCSN. The slate concludes on Monday, Sept. 7, with the San Francisco Giants facing the St. Louis Cardinals in a special Labor Day primetime matchup at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.
BRAVES-PHILLIES (Sunday, Sept. 6, at 1 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock)
MLB home run leader Kyle Schwarber and the Philadelphia Phillies host 2023 NL MVP Ronald Acuña Jr. and the first-place Atlanta Braves in an NL East matchup at Citizens Bank Park this Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock. Play-by-play voice Jason Benetti will call Braves-Phillies alongside former Atlanta pitcher C.J. Nitkowski, former Philadelphia general manager Ruben Amaro Jr., and reporter Jordan Cornette.
During crucial at-bats in the game, 15-year MLB relief pitcher Adam Ottavino will provide “Inside the Pitch” commentary, giving viewers insight into the pitcher’s throw-by-throw approach against a hitter.
The Braves are 82-56 and hold a four-game lead over Philadelphia. Atlanta ranks second in the National League in ERA (3.58) and saves (43), third in quality starts (52), and fourth in home runs (174). First baseman Matt Olson leads Atlanta’s offense, ranking second in MLB with 69 extra-base hits and 32 doubles and third with 37 home runs. The Phillies, who hold a 78-60 record and the NL’s second Wild Card berth, pace MLB pitching staffs with 1,358 strikeouts and rank second with 61 quality starts. Schwarber powers Philadelphia’s lineup, pacing the majors with 40 home runs while also leading the Phillies in slugging percentage (.524) and RBI (82).
A 10-year MLB pitcher, Nitkowski played for eight teams from 1995-2005. Before beginning his broadcast career in 2013, Nitkowski spent four seasons pitching in Japan and Korea. Currently in his third year in the Braves broadcast booth, Nitkowski is the lead BravesVision game analyst. Previously, he was an analyst for Texas Rangers telecasts on Bally Sports Southwest from 2017-23, where he was nominated for 11 Lone Star Emmy Awards, winning six times. He also served as a national game and studio analyst for FOX Sports from 2014-19. This weekend marks Nitkowski’s second Braves-Phillies matchup on NBC Sports this season, after calling the April 19 meeting on Sunday Night Baseball.
Amaro Jr. served as the Phillies’ general manager from 2009-15 after joining the club’s front office following the 1998 season. During his first year as Philadelphia’s general manager, he was named Executive of the Year by the Philadelphia Sports Writers Association after the club won the National League pennant, posted 93 regular-season wins — its most since 1993 at the time — and advanced to the seventh World Series in franchise history. From 2010-11, Amaro’s Phillies owned MLB’s best records, going 97-65 in 2010 and a franchise-record 102-60 in 2011. A former outfielder, Amaro played eight Major League seasons from 1991-98 with the Angels, Phillies, and Cleveland, totaling 218 hits, 43 doubles, and 100 RBI in 485 career games. He joined the Phillies’ television broadcast team in 2020, where he serves as a color analyst on NBC Sports Philadelphia.
Ottavino began his 15-year MLB career with the Cardinals in 2010 before pitching for the Rockies, Red Sox, Yankees, and Mets. In 2019 with the Yankees, he posted a career-best 1.90 ERA with 88 strikeouts across 73 games. He retired in 2025 with a 3.48 ERA, 862 strikeouts, 46 saves, and 41 wins in 727 career appearances. Ottavino joined YES Network as a studio and game analyst for Yankees telecasts in 2025 and began contributing to ESPN’s MLB coverage this season. Ottavino will make his seventh and eighth NBC Sports appearance of the season during Labor Day weekend.
Cornette will serve as a reporter for Braves-Phillies this weekend. He joined NBC Sports in 2023 as a college basketball analyst and has since contributed to the network’s coverage of college football, the NBA, and select golf events.
SUNDAY NIGHT BASEBALL: TWINS-WHITE SOX (6 p.m. ET on Peacock and NBCSN)
Rookie sensation first baseman Munetaka Murakami and the first-place Chicago White Sox host All-Star Josh Bell and the division rival Minnesota Twins at Rate Field this Sunday at 6 p.m. ET on Peacock and NBCSN. 2006 American League MVP Justin Morneau and 1980 AL Cy Young Award winner Steve Stone will join Matt Vasgersian in the booth for Twins-White Sox on Sunday Night Baseball.
Ahmed Fareed will host the pregame show alongside Eric Hosmer, who will also provide “Inside the Pitch” commentary from the batter’s perspective during crucial at-bats throughout the game.
The White Sox, 72-65, hold a three-game lead in the AL Central, while the Twins are 3.5 games out of an American League Wild Card spot. Chicago leads the AL in RBI (624) and ranks third in home runs (181), powered by Murakami, third baseman Miguel Vargas, and shortstop Colson Montgomery who are tied for the team lead and rank fifth in the league with 29 homers apiece. Vargas also paces the AL in runs scored (92). Minnesota ranks second in the AL in RBI (609) and fourth in batting average (.246). Bell leads the Twins with 83 RBI (T-5th in the AL), while Byron Buxton has registered a team-best 25 home runs (11th in the AL).
A 14-year MLB veteran and member of the Twins Hall of Fame, Morneau spent the first 11 seasons of his career in Minnesota (2003-13), before stops with the Pirates, Rockies and White Sox. The former first baseman was a part of two Twins AL Central Division championship teams (2004 and 2006) and made an NL Wild Card appearance in 2013 with the Pirates. Morneau won the American League Most Valuable Player Award in 2006 after batting .321 with a career-high 34 home runs and 130 RBI and was selected to the AL All-Star team four times from 2007-10. In 2020, Morneau was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. Since his retirement in 2018, he has served as a special assistant in the Twins’ front office and is currently an analyst for the Twins’ telecasts on Twins.TV. Morneau will make his Sunday Night Baseball debut this weekend.
Stone, who makes his Sunday Night Baseball debut this weekend, began his 11-year MLB career with the Giants in 1971 before pitching for the White Sox, Cubs, and Orioles. In 1980, he won the American League Cy Young Award with Baltimore after leading the league with 25 wins across 37 starts, while posting a 3.23 ERA, 149 strikeouts, and nine complete games. Across 320 career appearances (269 starts), Stone recorded 107 wins, a 3.97 ERA, and 1,065 strikeouts. He is currently in his 18th season as a game analyst for White Sox telecasts on Chicago Sports Network (CHSN) and previously served as an analyst for Peacock’s MLB Sunday Leadoff from 2022-23.
Hosmer spent the first seven seasons of his 13-year MLB career (2011-2023) with the Royals. In 2015, Hosmer was a key contributor to the team’s first World Series championship in 30 years, driving in 17 runs in 16 Postseason games, and is the Royals’ all-time leader in postseason RBI (29). The following season, he set career highs in home runs (25) and RBI (104), was named an All-Star, and won All-Star MVP honors as he led the AL to victory with a home run and a single. A four-time Gold Glove winner at first base, Hosmer was named a Silver Slugger after setting career highs in batting average (.318) and hits (192) in 2017. Hosmer joined MLB Network and the Royals’ broadcast team this season and also contributes to Apple TV’s MLB coverage. This weekend marks Hosmer’s third Sunday Night Baseball broadcast of the season, following Angels-Royals on April 26 and Tigers-Royals on May 10.
LABOR DAY PRIMETIME: CARDINALS-GIANTS (Monday, Sept. 7, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock)
2026 All-Star Jordan Walker and the St. Louis Cardinals visit three-time All-Star Rafael Devers and the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park in a special primetime Labor Day matchup on Monday, Sept. 7, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock. Play-by-play voice Dave Flemming will join three-time NL MVP Albert Pujols, four-time All-Star outfielder Hunter Pence, and reporter Ashley ShahAhmadi on the call of Cardinals-Giants.

The Cardinals are currently five games behind the San Diego Padres for the third National League Wild Card berth. First baseman Alec Burleson is second in MLB with 100 RBI and paces St. Louis with 150 hits (T-4th in the NL) and a .288 batting average (9th in the NL). Walker is third in the Majors in RBI (97) and tied for 11th in the NL in home runs (27), while closer Riley O’Brien leads the NL with 34 saves. Devers paces the Giants’ offense and is tied for second in the NL with 32 doubles and is tied for sixth with 30 home runs. San Francisco’s right fielder Jung Hoo Lee is batting .288 this season, tied for the ninth-best mark in the league.
A three-time NL MVP, Pujols put together a prolific 22-year MLB career with the Cardinals (2001-2011, 2022), Angels (2012-2021), and Dodgers (2021). An 11-time All-Star, he won two World Series titles during his Cardinals tenure. During his career, Pujols racked up 2,218 RBI, 3,384 hits, 703 home runs, 686 doubles, and posted a .296 batting average. Pujols ranks in the top 10 all-time in RBI (second), home runs (fourth), doubles (fifth), and hits (ninth). Pujols serves as a Special Assistant to the Commissioner, consulting with MLB on a range of topics, including player relations and issues regarding his home country, the Dominican Republic. He is currently an analyst for MLB Network, appearing on shows such as MLB Tonight, and previously was a game analyst for Peacock’s MLB Sunday Leadoff in 2023. He will make his second NBC Sports appearance of the season this weekend, following Cubs-Cardinals on May 31.
A four-time All-Star, Pence made his Major League debut with the Houston Astros in 2007 and went on to play for the Philadelphia Phillies (2011-2012), San Francisco Giants (2012-2018, 2020), and the Texas Rangers (2019). The former outfielder won two World Series rings with San Francisco in 2012 and 2014, and posted a .254 batting average, 23 runs scored, 43 hits, and 17 RBI during four postseasons. Pence joined the Giants’ television booth in 2021, serving as an in-game analyst on NBC Sports Bay Area during select road contests. This weekend marks Pence’s third NBC Sports broadcast this season, following Giants-Cubs on June 7 and Giants-Red Sox on Aug. 23.
ShahAhmadi will serve as a reporter for Cardinals-Giants on Labor Day, after serving as a courtside reporter for NBC Sports’ NBA coverage this past season. Previously, she covered the NBA on TNT and college football with ESPN. ShahAhmadi will make her sixth appearance of the season as a reporter for NBC Sports’ MLB coverage this weekend.

All five episodes are available now on Peacock.
