NHL RIVALS – PENGUINS-RANGERS – TONIGHT, 10:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN
NBCSN will air an encore presentation of NHL Rivals, featuring the Rangers and Penguins, tonight at 10:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN. NHL Rivals dovetails off of NBCSN’s Wednesday Night Rivalry, which Forbes dubbed “the hottest new brand in sports.” Highlights include the melee following Rangers forward David Shaw’s hit on Penguins legend Mario Lemieux in 1988, the Penguins’ comeback in the 1992 Patrick Division Finals following Adam Graves’ slash that broke Lemieux’s hand, and the renewed rivalry in recent years led by Sidney Crosby and Henrik Lundqvist.
Following are excerpts from this week’s episode of NHL Rivals.
Former Bruins forward Phil Bourque on Graves slash on Lemieux’s hand: The Adam Graves slash was a big turning point in that series. It dialed us in, and got us all on the same page.”
Rangers’ play-by-play broadcaster Sam Rosen on Graves slash, which garnered a four-game suspension: “I still believe it was one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen. There’s no doubt it called for a penalty for slashing. A four-game suspension? No. No way.”
Rangers play-by-play broadcaster Kenny Albert: “Sidney Crosby has become that villain when the Penguins visit Madison Square Garden.”
In addition, NBCSN will present a new episode of NHL Top 10 at 11 p.m. ET following NHL Rivals. This week’s installment of the countdown program highlights the top ten moments in Winter Classic history.
