STAMFORD, Conn. – Jan. 6, 2026 – Drake Maye and the No. 2 seed New England Patriots host Justin Herbert and the No. 7 seed Los Angeles Chargers in the AFC Wild Card Playoffs from Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., this Sunday, Jan. 11, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC, Peacock, Telemundo, and Universo. Coverage begins with a special edition of Football Night in America at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.
The Chargers (5-0) and Patriots (4-0) are two of only four NFL clubs to go undefeated in primetime this season (minimum four games).
The Patriots (14-3) clinched their first playoff berth since 2021 and their first AFC East title since 2019. New England’s 14 victories are the franchise’s most since the 2016 season, which was capped by a win in Super Bowl LI. Maye, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and a 2026 Pro Bowl selection, is among the MVP frontrunners after leading the NFL in completion percentage (72.0) and passer rating (113.5). He also passed for 4,394 yards and 31 touchdowns.
Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel, a former linebacker in New England, guided a 10-win improvement in his first season leading the team.
New England defeated the Miami Dolphins 38-10 in their regular-season finale as running back Rhamondre Stevenson recorded 131 yards in seven rush attempts and scored three times (two rushing, one receiving touchdown). Maye completed 14 of 18 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown in three quarters.
The Chargers (11-6) finished second in the AFC West and clinched a postseason berth for the second straight season under head coach Jim Harbaugh. It’s the first time the franchise has gone to the playoffs in consecutive years since a four-year run from 2006-09.
Herbert, the 2021 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year, earned his third-career Pro Bowl selection (2021, 2022, and 2025) and aims for his first career playoff win and the club’s first since the 2018 season.
The Chargers defense is led by Pro Bowl safety Derwin James and outside linebacker Tuli Tuipulotu and ranked fourth in the NFL in red zone defense and fifth in total defense.
Los Angeles and New England meet for the 47th time (including four postseason games) on Sunday night, with the Patriots holding a 27-17-2 advantage in the series. The teams last met in the postseason following the 2018 season, as Tom Brady passed for 343 yards to lead the Patriots to a 41-28 AFC Divisional Playoff win over Philip Rivers and the Chargers. That victory stands as the last home playoff win for New England.
Mike Tirico (play-by-play) will call Chargers-Patriots alongside 17-time Emmy Award winner Cris Collinsworth (analyst) and Melissa Stark (sideline reporter). Three-time Super Bowl referee Terry McAulay will serve as rules analyst.

NBC SPORTS TO PRESENT EXTENSIVE COVERAGE OF SUPER BOWL LX: NBC Sports will provide extensive live coverage of Super Bowl LX from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Feb. 8 across NBC, Peacock, Telemundo, and Universo. Pre-game coverage will begin at 1 p.m. ET, with live game coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET. Following the conclusion of the game and Lombardi Trophy ceremony, Primetime in Milan, NBC Sports’ primetime Milan Cortina Winter Olympics program, will begin at 10:45 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.
TELEMUNDO DEPORTES TO PRESENT ENTIRE NBC SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL SCHEDULE, INCLUDING SUPER BOWL LX AND PLAYOFFS: Telemundo Deportes will again provide exclusive Spanish-language coverage of the entire NBC Sunday Night Football package, including Super Bowl LX and two playoff games. Games will also be available on live stream via the Telemundo Deportes app.
NFL PLAYOFF SCHEDULE ON NBC, PEACOCK & TELEMUNDO DEPORTES: On Sunday, January 11, NBC, Peacock, and Telemundo Deportes will present a primetime Wild Card playoff game, followed by a Divisional Playoff game on the weekend of January 17-18. Peacock Sunday Night Football Final, an NFL post-game show produced by NBC Sports, streams exclusively on Peacock following every Sunday Night Football game during the 2025 season. The show is hosted from the game site by Jac Collinsworth, Harrison, and Dungy, who will provide instant reactions to each Sunday game along with highlights and interviews, while Berry will host a weekly segment where he will discuss his successful bets from that day and provide fantasy advice and an early look at the waiver wire.
