It would be hard for Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti not to celebrate his team’s dominance of Schalke in Wednesday’s 2-0 UEFA Champions League win in Gelsenkirchen.

Now throw in the fact that Cristiano Ronaldo broke out of his relative slump with a headed goal and a crafty assist on Marcelo’s wonder goal, and you’ve got the recipe for a downright giddy Italian.

After all, did you see him hugging Marcelo?

Anyway, back to Ancelotti’s reaction to Ronaldo’s Man of the Match-worthy performance.

“He’s scored, he’s played well and he’s got an assist. He’s back. He needed a match like that; his attitude was good and he played well. Everything’s gone well”.

The Italian manager was also keen to praise his team. “It wasn’t a high intensity match. Schalke defended right from the start, trying to counter-attack and playing at a high tempo. After the first goal we had control of the game and tried to score more. I reckon we started well; we showed good intention. Marcelo and Carvajal had space and we were able to get in behind them”.

Reckon? Amazing. Ancelotti as Wyatt Earp.

Ronaldo was fantastic on Wednesday, though I’m sure few people really believed his slump was a legit start to his post-30 downfall. Though I still think they’d be wise to cash in on him come summer.
