Angel di Maria’s time at Manchester United was a well-documented bust.
After moving to Old Trafford from Real Madrid for more than $90 million, the Argentine struggled to adapt to the Premier League and was relegated to the bench under Louis van Gaal.

He lasted just one season with United, and is now with French giants Paris-Saint Germain. Speaking to Spanish news outlet Marca, Di Maria said he never intended to leave Real Madrid back in the summer of 2014, and only went to United after a deal with PSG fell through.
My intention was always to stay at Madrid. I don’t really know what happened on the inside of the deal - these are things that representatives deal with. It happens in football.
I started very well [at United] but then I had problems with people at the club, I started being left on the bench, then my home was robbed. It all just made me want to get out of there as quickly as possible.
My move to PSG could have happened before this summer but it didn’t for financial reasons and I ended up going to United. In the summer I had the chance to go there again and I could not say no.
Di Maria penned an open letter to Real Madrid fans following his move to United, saying “many lies” were published and that he never demanded a move away from the Bernabeu. During his season in the Premier League, you could tell he was never really comfortable, both on and off the pitch.
In 32 games with Manchester United, Di Maria managed just four goals. He has already equalled that total in eight matches with Paris Saint-Germain.
