Harry Kane has moved one step closer to making his senior England national team debut, as the 21-year-old Tottenham Hotspur forward was selected as one of Roy Hodgson’s 12 available substitutes for Friday’s 2016 European Champions qualifier against Lithuania.

The big question surrounding Kane since his first call-up to the senior team was made official last week, was whether or not he would start and make his full senior-team debut.

With Danny Welbeck chosen to start wide, opposite of Raheem Sterling and in support of the lone striker, Wayne Rooney, Kane starts today’s game from the bench. With England heavy favorites against the Lithuanians, Kane will almost certainly make his first senior-team appearance as a second-half substitute, should the game be comfortably in hand.

With England a perfect 12-for-12 points thus far in EURO 2016 qualifying, Hodgson has plenty of wiggle room to integrate new players into the first team, as well as next week’s friendly against Italy.
