One of the brightest talents in the Premier League is staying put.
Ross Barkley signed a new four-year contract with Everton on Tuesday as the 20-year-old midfielder will remain at Goodison Park for the foreseeable future.
This news come on the back of Barkley being linked with a move to Manchester United, as several other top clubs across Europe have been keeping close tabs on the Englishman many have dubbed “the new Paul Gascoigne” after his breakout season during the 2013-14 PL campaign.
Barkley, who has been at Everton since the age of 11, has progressed through the Toffees’ academy and has now committed his future to the Merseyside club in a move that is sure to delight his manager Roberto Martinez.
After his impressive displays in the PL at such a young age last term many believed the marauding midfielder should have played a more integral role for England at the 2014 World Cup this summer. Regardless, Barkley has a bright future in the game after scoring seven times for Everton in 38 appearances last season.
Several of those strikes were highlight reel moments as Barkley’s slaloming 70-yard run and finish away at Newcastle plus a bending long-range effort against Manchester City will live long in the memory of Everton’s fans. Now they will get to see Barkley create plenty more memorable moments in an Everton shirt.
